- My friends - I was reminiscing with one of my girls about the New Year's party we were at, and afterwards started laughing out loud alone in my car when recalling it again. The same thing happened when I was remembering the events of last Saturday night, random turns of phrase that my guys have come up with, and things that I heard secondhand because I wasn't there to witness them.
- New music! I went on a binge thanks to an eMusic 100 free songs code and a $10 iTunes gift card left over from iPhone day. Mark Ronson, you're my man! Also, Polyphonic Spree, Mike Doughty, Jen Kirkman, Paul F. Tompkins, Elvis Costello, Dusty Springfield and even you, Brandi Carlile. You're all my men, so to speak.
- I lost 4.5 pounds because I started trying to lose weight in earnest, not just posting on my fatblog and hoping for the best.
- Mederma. It's fading some scars AND it smells divine.
- I got some new products! Perfume, hair stuff and mascara.
- And finally, I get to bake tonight and tomorrow! One of my friends just bought a place, and he's having a bbq tomorrow to celebrate it, so I'll be baking brownies tonight and pound cake tomorrow.
On the list of possible baked goods:
- Knockoff Red Lobster biscuits (I've never had the originals but I can eat the hell out of the ones I make)
- Chocolate chip cake (doused with rum and dusted with confectioner's sugar)
- Something snacky (my favorite ranchy little crackers or some Chex mix)
As of right now, I have $50 for ingredients and groceries for the week. Chex mix will wait until I have the kind of money that General Mills and Planters demand of me, and don't even get me started on Lea and his robbing bastard partner Perrins. I get paid again tomorrow, but we're slated for a "snow event" tomorrow night, so I will not be even getting
close to the market. Maybe I'll bake on Saturday, or Sunday once I send off my psych test I'll bake during the game.
I wonder if the bullets arrive intact when this entry gets to Vox.
Edit: the bullets were turned into dashes, bastards.
Tonight I procured ingredients for holiday cookies. I went a little overboard, but I am set for about seven batches of cookie goodness. And I'm sending them all off. ALL of them. Well, of course I'll be forced to eat one of every batch, quality control.
I dropped my camera off this morning. I got lost on the way to the camera shop, but it afforded me one of the best things about living here - driving down North Capitol Street, you pass a couple of huge graveyards full of old interesting stones, and get a great view of the roof of the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Once you clear the cemetaries, there's a long bend in the road, and once it straightens out you get one of the best views of the Capitol building to be had in Washington. Fan-tastic.
The prospect of cookie baking is just too much for me to bear right now, I'm going to bed before I start mixing up dough out of sheer excitement.
I'm very impressed with the results. Not so much with the muffins, they were a little tough. I think that I overmixed the batter.
Make chocolate chip scones. With fancy pants chocolate. The chocolate chip scones were the one thing at Starbucks I had serious problems with - it was virtually impossible to not eat them when they were fresh. Thankfully, Starbucks doesn't sell them any more. And please don't correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm just now getting out of the habit of going twice a day.
